Philosophy

Colonial Nursery School, the Annapolis Cooperative, is a play-based preschool for children ages 2 – Pre-K. Our philosophy is to promote individuality, creativity, and diversity through experience-based learning. As a cooperative school, we embrace the involvement of parents to take active roles in their children’s education.

Our classrooms, indoors and out, reflect an environment that changes with the seasons and showcases a global perspective. As the children’s interests change, so does the school space. We embrace the arts and sciences through hands-on exploration in dance, drama, music, math and science. Our highly qualified teachers help children reach their potential through a learning environment that piques curiosity and supports the building of knowledge in all areas of development.

At Colonial Nursery School we support community in every way imaginable. We offer parent education classes, afternoon enrichment sessions for our 3s and 4s classes and provide many opportunities for expeditionary learning. Our classes regularly take field trips to Smithsonian Institution, local and regional art galleries, maritime museums and science centers. CNS supports the local community by working on monthly service projects and the global community through our micro lending account at KIVA. Children in our program develop a sense of who they are in relation to their selves, their family, their classroom and school; as well as their city, state, country and world.

If you are interested in a school that serves as a place of discovery and exploration, we encourage you to see what CNS has to offer. We value the children’s ongoing adventures in learning and our commitment to them as capable individuals is strong. Come see how we re-imagine early learning.
